The Cupboard Door Knobs

Cupboard door knobs

One of the first door handles, if not the first door handle, was the door knob, the simple handle that was still attached to almost every door about 60 years ago, it was simple in design and easy to hold during operation and It was easy to pull or push. After this the whole system changed rapidly as the lever handle took its place and had some advantages that the door knob did not have. Lever handles require just a small downward pressure to release the catch and this can often be done with the hands or arms actually carrying something. However, the Cupboard door knobs required a full turn and pull to open it. It made a nice secure fitting and was definitely resistant to small children but you have to be free handed to operate it.

Cupboard Door knobs disappeared from a large portion of new construction work and this has largely been true ever since. There are some older properties which have retained the Cupboard door knob as it fits in with the doors and decoration but these were limited. There has been a fair market for stainless or aluminum door handles, but primarily as a security system.

One area where Cupboard door knobs have found a major niche market is on cupboard or kitchen unit doors where they provide clean impressive lines and add to the overall design that the designer is trying to promote. The advantage is that door closing is usually done by a magnetic catch system or clip type closure, where the door is opened not by twisting but by a simple pulling motion and the door is closed by pushing. This enables easy access to the units and very simple fixing on the door to achieve the desired effect.

A serious advantage in kitchen and bathroom situations is that the handles can be cleaned and disinfected quickly and effectively. These are areas where germs can spread rapidly from surface to surface and from person to person, as well as the underlying health problems associated with the transmission of germs and bacteria. Cupboard Door knobs have simple clean lines and can be made of stainless steel or alloy or plastic and even wood as a basic design. The latest designs are very modern and will light up any area. They will not stick to clothes so they are worth considering.
